Digital Channel Living, which is known for screening both Most Haunted and the British version of Next Top Model has now commissioned its first UK original drama for the sum of £3m.
The drama will star Will Young and is described as a supernatural thriller given it is set in an old asylum that was changed into loft apartments, which is fine, until things started to happen during the night.
Young is famous from Pop Idol and his ensuing musical career. In the drama, he plays a character that wants to figure out why his brother passed away.
Although most people know Young from the radio and Idol, he does have previous acting experience under his belt with roles in the ITV drama Miss Marple, the movie film Mrs. Henderson Presents, and a stint on stage in The Vortex by Noel Coward.
The six series thriller titled ‘Bedlam’ will begin shooting in September and will be produced by Red, a Manchester production company that previously worked with Casanova, Queer as Folk, and Clocking Off.
‘Bedlam’ will be a serious move from traditional programming for Living the subscription television channel that has mostly targeted female viewers by offering entertainment shows such as Next Top Model and imports from the US such as Grey’s Anatomy.
Director of television for Living TV, Claudia Rosencrantz, stated that she is looking to lead the channel away from a ‘pink’ focus instead offering a little bit of everything to views.
Rosencrantz explained that Bedlam will return next season if it premieres well and attracts enough viewer support.
Already BBC Worldwide has offered its two cents and invested in the new series in the hopes that it can be distributed to US viewers who are currently indulging in paranormal tales such as True Blood and Twilight.
