Christopher Eccleston to be BBC drug lord
Christopher Eccleston, the Doctor Who star, will be showing up in a new BBC thriller, The Shadow Line, playing a drug lord.
The actor who most recently was seen in the BBC’s Lennon Naked, as John Lennon, will be starring alongside fellow cast members Sir Antony Sher, Chiwetel Ejiofer, and Stephen Rea.
The dark thriller will be presented in six parts and shows the impact of an underworld figure on six different lives. Produced, written, and directed by Hugo Blick, the series will be shot in the Isle of Man and is due to be screened in 2011.
Other cast members include Kierston Wareing from Fish Tank, Rafe Spall from Desperate Romantics, and Lesley Sharp from Playing the Field.
According to the BBC casting announcement, each will play one of an array of individuals whose very different lives become intertwined after drug baron Harvey Wratten is murdered.
BBC controller for drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson, stated that he is thrilled to have gotten such grade A talent to bring Hugo Blick’s scripts to life. He also stated that Chris and Chiwetel are two of the best actors and they could not be more thrilled to have them on board along with the rest of the cast.
