Bet Lynch heading back to Coronation Street

Betgilroy2003Bet Lynch is set to shock viewers as a landlady on Rovers Return.  Although there are not too many details surrounding her appearance, it is known for sure that Julie Goodyear is just one of the first of many old characters that will be making a comeback on Coronation Street.

The rumour is that producer Phil Collinson who has recently taken over the show plans on axing a few of the new younger faces on the soap in order to bring up ratings.

Goodyear played the smart mouthed landlady on the show for 25 years, during which time she won a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995 at the National Television Awards.

An insider at the show said that Collinson feels many viewers have tuned out due to the fact that the soap opera looks more like a teen soap now due to the young cast members.  To combat the problem he is going to bring back some of the most loved characters from the golden days.

The source continued to state that Collinson feels that Goodyear represents the very spirit of the show.  Other people that he hopes to bring back on Coronation Street include Curly Watts-Kevin Kennedy.

Kennedy stated in an interview last year that he would like to make a comeback given that it is almost the 50th anniversary of the show.

Collison is always looking at attracting Sherrie Hewson the star of Loose Women back onto the soap in the role of Maureen Naylor.
